Knifemaking - Making a Motorcycle Chain San Mai Damascus Knife
Adding brass to a san mai blade for decorative purposes and then heat treating it properly using a really low tech solution.

Order Details:
Motorcycle Chain San Mai damascus with a 5160 core.
5 7/8" edge, 11 1/4" OAL, 5/16" thickness.
Handle in the same chain from the blade.
Heavy duty hand made leather sheath.

Knife making process

I start with some rusted motorcycle chain. (Picture 1)

I place it inside a square section pipe. (Picture 2)

Then I cut the ends of the pipe so I can close it. (Picture 3)

Closing it. (Picture 4)

Closed it. (Picture 5)

In order to get an oxigen reduction process going, I place it on the oven at 1000C for 20 minutes. (Picture 6)

Placing it inside the pipe with added stainless 304 strips so the damascus doesn't weld to the pipe. (Picture 12)

Putting it on the oven at 1300C for 20 minutes. (Picture 13)
